Considering not only the economic consequences of the pandemic, but also the dramatic medical data on the COVID-19 disease caused by the coronavirus, iCEA Group decided to act. In March this year, the grassroots initiative of employees together with ideas to fight the virus presented by the company’s management led to creation of Poland vs COVID-19 initiative. The first act in this case was to set up a separate group as part of the international Folding@Home project, which the aim was to connect computers around the world to the cloud and provide their computing power to learn about the structure of coronavirus proteins. The overriding idea was to accelerate the work on the vaccine and to develop effective methods of therapy.
At the very beginning of Poland vs COVID-19 campaign, SEO360 agency from Pozań made 20 computers available. Once the equipment was properly configured and performed calculations to understand the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, the company engaged its business environment, customers and partners, and even competing agencies, and made efforts to promote the campaign, by involving both traditional and internet media, as well as a wide-ranging information campaign in social media. Thanks to the activity of these groups and employees, over a few months, over 24,000 work units were made available, which worked together to decipher how the coronavirus was hiding from the immune system of the human body. The Folding @ Home project had a statistics module implemented, which introduced a healthy piece of competition in a noble idea, implemented by volunteers from around the world. According to these statistics,Poland vs COVID-19 initiative was ranked 2,740 out of 255,570 classified teams in the team classification, where the highest positions were occupied by teams associated with the giants of the global economy, including companies such as NVIDIA, CERN, Intel, Microsoft and even Reddit.
Efficient communication in social media made a significant contribution to the success of the initiative. Information and video posts about the Poland vs COVID-19 project published on iCEA Group profiles on Facebook and LinkedIn were viewed 25,613 times and received 423 responses. The videos on Facebook were watched by over 16,500 people, of which 234 internet users reacted or shared the material.
The activity of LinkedIn users is also extremely pleased, where the business environment of iCEA Group actively reacted to new information about the campaign. Communication on this portal, much more economical in terms of graphics and narration, reached over 2,000 website users and generated over 50 reactions and shares. Moreover, the published content was not promoted through paid advertising, and its popularity and the success of the entire initiative are a direct merit of committed employees, supporters of the iCEA Group and partner companies.
Completion of the 4th stage of the Folding @ Home project has brought optimistic and very specific data on the structure of SARS CoV-2. Thanks to international commitment and the collection of powerful computing power, scientists participating in the project proved that the coronavirus surface glycoprotein has the ability to open and connect with human cells and to close and hide from the immune system.
The above information may prove crucial in developing further effective therapies. It is an undoubted success that pleases and should make all volunteers proud, as well as institutions participating in the project and associated with Poland vs COVID-19 initiative.
